Membership

We have 4 categories of membership:

• category 1 - for federated groups
• category 2 - other agencies with a consumer interest
• individual, and
• associate.

Category 1

Our membership in this category, consists of those originally in the National Federation of Consumer Groups, i.e. Federated Groups, currently Aberdeen, Tyneside, Oxford, Exeter, Plymouth and Central Hertfordshire. In addition, former members of Consumer Congress, including both local and national organisations with consumers as members fall into this category. 

Groups carry out their own surveys, represent consumers directly on local bodies and publish magazines which are circulated regularly to their members. Their levels of subscription vary, but are surprisingly modest. Category 2

This category encompasses those organisations, such as trading standards departments, voluntary organisations and some professional bodies, which do not in themselves have consumers as members. The annual subscription is £100.

If you live in an area where no Group is currently active, you may join as an Individual Member. As such, you will receive a regular copy of Consumer News (and our email newsletter if you have access), can attend Members Meetings, which are held two or three times a year, and the Annual Conference and AGM (usually held in May each year).

The annual subscription for Individual Members is £20.

NCF prefers to enter into a dialogue and work with, rather than be hostile to, commercial organisations active in the marketplace. This does not imply that we are uncritical of poor standards of service.

Our Associates expect no favours from us on this front, however we are always willing to assist them to improve these standards. We are prepared, on occasions, to let them to survey our members on consumer issues.

The annual subscription for Corporate Associates is between £250 and £500.
