NCF People

MaryOur President is Mary McAnally.  Former Managing Director of Meridian Broadcasting, Mary was originally a programme maker with the BBC and Thames Television, responsible for a wide range of award winning factual and consumer series.  She created and produced "Money-Go-Round" for ITV and "4What Its Worth" for Channel 4 before becoming Head of Features at Thames TV and then Director of Programmes at Meridian Broadcasting and Chair of United News and Media's Transmission Board.

  
Her former public apointments include nine years as a Member of the National Consumer Council, six as a Board Member of  the South East England Development Agency, and two terms as an Independent Member of the Department of Trade and Industry's Executive Board, as well as a spell on the Advisory Council on Advertising and six years as Chair of Sport England South East.
  
Before embarking on her television career, Mary was an international tennis player. playing at Wimbledon for four years, representing England and playing in Surrey's winning teams for ten years.  More recently she served as a Member of the All England Club's Championships Committee responsible for running the worlds premier tennis tournament.
  
Mary is co-author (with the late Rosemary Delbridge) of the Consumer Guidebook "Buy Right

 

 

ArnoldOur chairman is Arnold Pindar. He is the United Kingdom Member of ANEC, the European Consumer Voice in Standardization and member of ANEC’s Steering Committee. Until retirement in 2007, he was employed as Head of Consumer and Societal Policy at the British Standards Institution (BSI) (9 years) and before that served for 30 years in the Department of Trade and Industry, much of this time at the Laboratory of the Government Chemist (LGC) providing technical and scientific advice on National and European consumer safety legislation and Standards. 


He has chaired a number of British and European Standards technical committees and represented the UK and chaired a number of European Commission working groups on consumer safety and an EU conference on environmental matters. 


As ANEC’s Coordination Committee chairman for seven years he helped develop their programme on the standardisation of services.  He also chaired the Priorities Committee of the International Organisation for Standardisation’s (ISO) Committee on Consumer Policy (COPOLCO) for five years and co-chaired their training committee. He has trained consumers all over the world for standards development work and has written on many consumer subjects.
