About us

We are the UK's grassroots consumer organisation, representing local consumer groups nationally and campaigning to improve consumer rights for everybody.

Our aim is to help grass roots consumer help themselves, educate and inform consumers for the public benefit, with reference to the key guiding principles of

  • Choice,
  • Information,
  • Representation,
  • Access to goods and services,
  • Quality,
  • Fairness,
  • Safety and
  • Redress

by any or all of the following means:

  • promoting consumer education and research to increase the awareness and effectiveness of consumers to those issues that affect them.
  • providing a means of communication with government, commerce and industry, regulators and other interested parties.
  • encouraging and supporting members and member organizations to work together better and to promote their activities.
  • consulting with and representing grassroots members;
  • circulating, publishing and disseminating members' views, and
  • responding to consultations on members' behalf.

Consumer Groups provide a good training ground for people who can go on to make a contribution in consultative and advisory bodies at local, regional or national level. Bodies covering areas such as the Post Office, Food, the Courts and Health, use NCF as an effective filter for new user committee members.

The Federation is a self-supporting, non political, not for profit voluntary organisation
